Today the internet has grown to becoming the number one way people communicate and do business. It is the future of the world and how our lives will proceed from here on out. With that in mind, understanding how you can be apart of it (not just from the user end, but becoming a contributor through your own page or site) is really exciting and worth learning about. There are many types of domain extensions out there, and this post will give you a good rundown of the major ones to get you started.
The types of domain extensions
- .COM - usually commercial sites like businesses
- .ORG - stands for "organization", such as non-profits and foundations. These are more "credible" generally, though just because it has this extension doesn't mean it's completely safe.
- .NET - for "network". This can be anything from a social networking site to a professional guild or club.
- .EDU - Educational sites, usually reserved for schools or universities. Very credible and safe.
- .GOV - government sites - very credible and safe as well.
So, there you have it - some of the most commonly seen types of domain extensions. Check out who.is for more info on any site out there.
