You may not realize this, but there are a number of places that offer cheap domain name registration. A quick google with give you plenty of results. Now before you go through with your cheap domain name registration, you need to know the types of domain name extensions and find the best one for you. In the not to distant past, your options were pretty limited. It was either .com, .net, .org, or .alt. I don't remember if there were any others off the top of my head. But now, the internet has grown so much that those domain name extensions were no longer enough.
Now we have:
- .edu
- .gov
- .int
- .mil
- .net
- .org
- .biz
- .info
- .jobs
- .mobi
- .name
- .tel
And that doesn't even touch on the different country domain name extensions. Once you've figured out which one best suits you/your organization, then you need to see if that domain name is already registered to someone else. If you find the domain name you want is registered to someone else, you can simply look it up using WhoIs to find out who owns it and when it's set to expire. If you must have this particular domain name and it is owned by someone else, then wait to see what happened on it's expiration date. If the site is still live, then I'd say it's time to find a different domain name. However, if it does go down, then you have a chance to buy expired domain names. This isn't as easy as you might think. I just did a quick google to find it takes 75 days from the date the domain name expires, to the day it is available to be purchased by someone else. Once you finally have all the wrinkles ironed out of your domain name then you are ready to get started with your cheap domain name registration. And the process of cheap domain name registration is as easy as ordering a pizza online. You simply fill in the blanks and the website takes car of the cheap domain name registration for you.
