Whenever I think up a great domain name and it happens to be available, I know I have to buy it. I once took a class at the university having to do with Internet Marketing and Search Engine Optimization. In this course, we learned about buying domain names. One of the segments in our research included domain appraisal. One major factor that can increase its value are types of domain extensions. Some types of domain extensions are more valuable than others. Domain appraisers claim that “.com” is the most popular out of the types of domain extensions. Other valuable types of domain extensions include “.net” and “.org.” Factors aside from domain extensions include: how a websites sounds when you say it aloud, how short a domain name is, and its overall marketability. Domain appraisal is a useful subject to understand, whether you’re in the business of buying and selling domains or you plan on starting your own website for whatever reason. I thought this was one of the most valuable pieces of knowledge that I learned from my college education. When appraising your own domains, take heed of domain extensions.
